When "The Walking Dead" hits the free air waves for the first time on broadcast television this month,  it won’t be the first time a show made for cable goes into syndication.

However, when the hit zombies show airs on WCGV-TV 24, it will mark the foundation that the Sinclair-owned station will use for a new prime time lineup.

"(The) fall programming shakeup … offers viewers a solid mix of entertainment," the station said in a release earlier this week. "AMC’s "The Walking Dead" has become nothing short of a ratings juggernaut on cable, and the phenomenon is presented to broadcast audiences for the first time thanks to a syndication deal with primetime content provider, MyNetworkTV."

The show will air two weekly episodes starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday nights, and joins a primetime lineup that includes "The Mentalist" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."

A number of sitcoms are on the docket for WCGV’s schedule, including Betty White on "Hot in Cleveland." "Two and a Half Men" and fan favorite "The Office" have found homes on My 24 this fall, joining classic episodes of "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy."

"The daytime lineup has seen a complete overhaul this fall, showcasing a new group of programs that bring the lighter side of news and a can-do attitude," the station reported in the release.

"The Daily Buzz" will start the day, Antonio Sabato, Jr. hosts his own DIY program with "Fix It & Finish It" and Chef Jeff Hendersen will lead in the kitchen with "Flip My Food."

WCGV will also continue to produce local programming with high school football on "Thursday Night Lights," and Green Bay Packers football analysis every Tuesday former running back Ahman Green’s  "Locker Room."

More scheduling information is available on My24Milwaukee.com.

NO PACKERS GAME, NO PROBLEM: Since the Green and Gold played on Thursday night this week, there will be plenty of time to get together with "Friends" on Sunday. The Quizmaster Trivia crew will be at Who’s on Third and Jack’s American Pub with six rounds of trivia about the NBC sitcom "Friends."

For this event, there’s no need to preregister for the questions at 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Find out more on Facebook.

ON THE AIR: Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields and his family appeared on "Rachael Ray" on Thursday, when the show followed the Shields in their hometown of Sarasota, Fla.

Shields’ mother, Mimi, father, Sam Jr., and sister, Ashley, were showcased in the city, where Mimi is entrenched in her community and provides those less fortunate with essentials.

"I will give people food, clothing, shoes, whatever. If they need it, I will make sure they have it," Mimi told the show.

PLAY OF THE YEAR: Time Warner Cable SportsChannel launched the "Play of the Year" contest, which will let fans in Time Warner Cable markets across the country select the best high school football plays in their region. Weekly finalists will be determined by votes, with the top choices pitted against each other at the end of the season to determine the Wisconsin "Play of the Year."

The winning school will be awarded a $1,000 donation. Fans can view and vote for this week’s selections, along with those from the first six weeks of the season, at twcsportschannel.com

Twenty-four plays are now available for voting on twcsportschannel.com, and choices from this past games include Hartland Arrowhead, Waukesha West, Appleton North and Kimberly.

"Play of the Year" contenders will be chosen from games televised on TWC SportsChannel and voting will run from Monday afternoon through Friday afternoon, with weekly finalists announced on-air during halftime of each Friday night game.
