Jeremy Ross, a general assignment reporter with WITI-TV Fox 6, has left the station for a freelance job in Chicago.

Jeremy Ross leaves Fox 6 for move to Chicago

This week, Jeremy Ross will be doing something different than what he did for the past 8 years. The WITI-TV Fox 6 general assignment reporter left the station last week. This week he is a freelance journalist with WBBM-TV CBS 2 in Chicago.

"I'm thankful for the super friendly co-workers and really thoughtful people I had the chance to work with," Ross said as he finished up his last assignments at Ch. 6.

When Ross was a grad student at Northwestern, he worked at WBBM radio doing production spots. To make extra money, he helped in production and cut film for news features.

"It was kind of funny, that when I was going through things, I found the old I.D.," Ross said, explaining a recent post on his Facebook page, showing the tie that brings him back full circle.

We talked about some of his favorite moments working in Milwaukee, and though we talked about weather coverage, that never made his top list.

"I was able to stand outside Lambeau for Favre's last game, so that was pretty exciting," he said. "I'm from the Detroit area, so, I don't know what championship football looked like. And here I am, seeing all of the excitement."

In Chicago, Ross said he will probably be covering stories for the morning news, but beyond that he's open to the possibilities.

Ross did say that one memory will always go with him, and that came from covering Summerfest for the 9 p.m. news. Ross was doing a live shot from the grounds when a passerby showed his affection.

"I've seen reporters get upset and push back a little when people would interfere with their shots. This could have gone so many different ways. I'm so glad I played it light like I did," Ross said of the kiss that more than 75,000 people saw on YouTube.

OLD CHANNEL, NEW SPOT: WISN-TV Ch. 12 is reporting it is bringing a new over-the-air channel to Milwaukee starting this week.

"MOVIES! Milwaukee" launched on channel 12.2, WISN-TV's digital channel on Monday. The Weigel-owned entertainment station used to be on 49.3 and operated by the same group that runs WDJT-TV CBS 58 and WMLW-TV among others like Telemundo.

With this move, Ch. 12 will carry the re-branded MOVIES! channel, an all-classic network with popular films featuring famous stars like Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Sean Connery, Marilyn Monroe and Sidney Poitier.

"This network is a perfect fit for WISN-TV," said Jan Wade, president and general manager of WISN.

"It extends the quality of programming that our viewers have come to expect from us. We searched for the best product out there for our second channel, and we feel we found that with MOVIES! Milwaukee, I think viewers will enjoy watching this wonderful collection of classic, iconic movies with big name stars."

Some over-the-air viewers will initially have to rescan their television or converter box to find the channel. Programming listings and additional information on scanning can be found on WISN.com.
