Super-serving a niche audience can provide radio dominance in Milwaukee. Media watchers need look no further than country music powerhouse WMIL-FM to find a successful strategy on how to build and maintain an audience.

The Nielsen numbers for March were just made available, and once again WMIL was on top with a 10.7. WTMJ-AM 620 was in second place for the month at a 9.1 and oldies station WRIT was third with a 7.0.

GREAT PLACE ON A GREAT LAKE: Local waterways have shaped the city of Milwaukee since its very origin. "Milwaukee: A City Built On Water," written and hosted by historian John Gurda, tells the story of our relationship with water in a documentary that will air at 8 p.m. on Wednesday on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10.  In the special, Gurda takes the story to the present day, documenting how we have developed the areas along our lake and rivers. The show will detail the history of abuses of our waterways and efforts to revive and preserve the resource.

"Milwaukee: A City Built On Water" is presented by brings Gurda and producer Claudia Looze, the pair that was responsible for the multi-Emmy Award-winning MPTV mini-series "The Making of Milwaukee."

Produced in cooperation with WisconsinEye, the effort  has been funded by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, Lynde B. Uihlein, the Brookby Foundation, the Fund for Lake Michigan, Badger Meter Foundation and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. The show will also air at 9 p.m. Thursday on Ch. 36, 3 a.m. April 24 on Ch. 10 and at 4 a.m.  April 27 on Ch. 36.

FILM EFFORT: A special showing of "Blood, Sweat and Beer" will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at Brenner Brewing Company on South 5th Street in Milwaukee. Directors Chip Hiden and Alexis Irvin will be at the event to talk about and answer questions about the documentary.

WILD WEST: Fox News will air a new episode of "Legends & Lies: The Real West" at 7 p.m. Sunday. The hour-long program will feature folk character "Wild Bill," who was known for gun-fighting and gambling. The episode will feature first-hand accounts from direct descendants and historians.
