Eric Benet returns to his hometown, Milwaukee, today, July 2, for a block party and concert on 23rd Street between Chambers and Burleigh. The start time for the event has not been announced.
The free show is a promotion for his upcoming release, "Love and Life," and a tribute to his old neighborhood. The video for his current single, "You're the Only One," will be filmed on location.
The r&b soul singer / songwriter / producer, of course, was once married to Halle Berry. Benet recorded his latest Friday / Reprise / Warner Bros. Records release in Milwaukee with his longtime production partner Demonte Posey and writer / producer / cousin George Nash, Jr. It comes out Sept. 9.

He played in that neighborhood because he was giving homage to the place where he grew up. Not everyone who lives in a low-income urban area is "bad". I got news for you. Violence takes place EVERYWHERE. Even in the most impeccable neighborhoods. The only thing is you won't hear it on the news. They tend to save those reports for the "bad" neighborhoods. And I'm not saying crime is not happening there, I'm just saying don't think that crime isn't happening in the finest of areas. But getting back to the block party. It was a wonderful thing that Eric did for his community. I attended the event and he did a great job and it was well-received by all who attended. There were lot of kids and families there enjoying the concert. And now those same kids can see that it's okay to dream big. Because now they have witnessed someone from their neighborhood who dreamt big and worked hard who is now making a living from doing something he truly loves. Kudos to you Eric!
