2017 may mark the eighth annual WMSE Big Backyard BBQ, once again bringing tasty food, good company and great music to the Bay View neighborhood as a thank you to the station's listeners and supporters. But this year's edition, hosted on Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Humboldt Park Band Shell, will bring a first to Wisconsin.

The Big Backyard BBQ recently announced its lineup of musical entertainment for this year's celebration, headlined by Alejandro Escovedo. Opening for the genre-bounding rock singer-songwriter will be a band making its first appearance in the state: Diego's Umbrella, a group of gypsy rockers from San Francisco.

Milwaukee bands Twin Brother, Whiskey of the Damned and The Koch-Marshall Trio, local rocker Greg Koch new project, round out the rest of the musical lineup for the Bay View extravaganza.

"We try every year to make the Backyard BBQ even more exciting than the last, and this year is our hottest lineup yet," said WMSE general manager Tom Crawford in a press release. "We are confident our listeners are going to love it and look forward to sharing an incredible day of music with each and every one of you!"

Rounding out the day of entertainment will be food from local restaurants and thirst-quenching brews from MKE Brewing Company.

The Big Backyard BBQ will take place from noon until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, at Humboldt Park, in the heart of Bay View at 3000 S. Howell Ave.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
