Local R&B guru Paul Cebar joins forces with 88Nine RadioMilwaukee Music Director Scott Mullins for a vintage record spin Friday at Stone Creek Coffee on Kinnickinnic and Lincoln Avenues in Bay View.
"An Evening of Funky Floor Shakers & Solid Soul Senders!" runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and is the finale to the radio station's Summer Blend DJ Series at the café.
"When we were putting together the line up for this Summer Blend DJ Series back in June, Rock Dee (RIP) asked me who I'd like to DJ with," says Mullins. "I knew immediately that I wanted to DJ with Paul. I've wanted to see his record collection for years now, long before I moved to Milwaukee! He's just a funky ass mofro!"
The event will mark something of a cross-radio bonding session as Cebar has long rocked WMSE's Wednesday morning slot with the same mix of African, Latin and Caribbean sounds augmented by vintage soul, R&B, funk and jazz that will fuel the record spin.
Mullins says he and Cebar will play vintage 45s almost exclusively.
"I'm looking forward to blowing the dust off some of my funkiest 45s and working them in with what Paul brings," says Mullins.
