On Sat., Oct. 20, Del Mar took the stage at Thai Joe's. The melodic and danceable roots rock band that combines elements of funk, blues, country and even techno started in 1997 in Whitewater, and has been playing in Milwaukee for over a year.
In this time they have developed a sizeable following. Even though they played at Onopa Brewing Company on Friday, they drew a generous crowd Saturday.
Del Mar comprises of Nate Kendall on lead guitar and vocals, Kurt Svenson on rhythm guitar, Jarin Ryland on bass and Jeremy Snow on drums. Ryan Osheim, of Zig Zag and Mississippi Cactus, sat in on harmonica.
Look for their new live CD, "Live at the Annex," which will be released in November. It will feature seven songs and more than 40 minutes of music. The band's Web site, www.delmarplaypen.com is also worth visiting. Their next show will be a free show at The Gig (formerly Barrel Riders), on Fri., Nov. 16.
