On Fri, Jan. 4, The Social debuted The Dub Room, a new regular feature at the Walker's Point bar and restaurant. The Dub Room will be a monthly gathering of like-minded dub enthusiasts, DJs and dub bands, hosted by The Super Noble Brothers.

Dub is a form of reggae that strips the music to its bare essentials and uses effects like reverb and delay to create hard-hitting, often psychedelic effects. Dub has been growing in popularity among Milwaukee music fans recently, and Tommy and Andy Noble -- aka The Super Noble Brothers -- knew that if they could find a place to showcase the music it would be a hit.

Dub night will have two resident DJs, Gregg and Joe Schenecker. These two brothers from Wauwatosa have been digging deeper, for better music, longer than people twice their age. They host a dancehall reggae night at The Maze and also spin with Eric Blowtorch at The Stork Club on Sundays.

Last week, in addition to the Schenecker brothers, Elton, an electronic music maker and current keyboardist for The Peacemakers, performed a live dub set. With merely a keyboard, sequencer, effects processor and an analog echoplex, Elton put together an impressive one-man dub set. It was spartan, but groovy and soulful, with heavy electronic beats.

With the Super Noble Brothers doing all the booking, you know The Dub Room is sure to be one hot night.
