I was in West Milwaukee yesterday, and drove by Electric Avenue. I forgot that we have an Electric Avenue in Milwaukee, and when I saw it, immediately started thinking of the '80s Eddy Grant song of the same name. (You know the one: "We gonna rock down to …")
Back at the office, being the pop culture information junkie / procrastinator that I am, I did a little research on Electric Avenue. I learned that the street Grant's singing about is in Brixton, London, and there are also Electric Avenues in Venice, Calif.; Seal Beach, Calif.; Calgary, Alberta; Vienna, Va., and Cambridge, Mass.
So there you have it: useless information about Electric Avenue, and I apologize in advance if you have this song cranking in your brain for the rest of the day. Oh, and since I'm still yammering on about this, might I add that I would love to see someone walk down Milwaukee's Electric Avenue holding a "boom box" and blaring that song. Just once.

Ah, Electric Avenue. I use it almost daily. It's a great shortcut, but watch those railroad tracks. They are quite choppy and if you take them too fast it feels as though your whole car will rattle apart.

How unfortunate; I trashed my "Brighton Briefcase" (the old school boomboxes) years ago. Othrwise, I would just kick back there with my denim jacket with various quarter-sized button pins on it, colorful Zuba style pants rolled up and Doc Marten's. I am having a horrible 1983-87 flash back.
