Where does Milwaukee's Danny Gokey go from here?
Although no one seemed all that shocked that the hometown boy didn't make the final two on "American Idol" -- although a lot of people held out hope -- Brew City's love for Gokey didn't seem to have waned with his elimination.
In fact, his Summerfest grounds appearance was huge and an event at the Riverside last night was much anticipated. Next, Gokey joins nearly a dozen "AI" veterans for a summer tour that stops at the Bradley Center on Aug. 28.
While some former "Idol" contestants have made careers for themselves, most have gone on to relative obscurity.
Gokey's certainly a likeable guy and a talented singer, but what does his future hold? Will he ink a deal with a label and prove himself to have what it takes to maintain a career? Will that career make a lasting mark?
It's interesting to note that Gokey's event last night was covered on local television only by the Fox affiliate. Is this a sign his ride even at home is slowing?
Really, only time will tell. Like you, I've heard him sing other people's songs on "American Idol" and I'll venture to say that while being a good songwriter isn't always the key to success, it may make the difference for Gokey.
When he digs deep into his heart and sings what he finds there, we'll likely all know the answer.

I hope that Danny will make a CD. I like his voice and his energy. He seems like just a down to earth nice guy. I think that he is more determined to do well with his wife's charity than he is to become a recording star. IMHO I am always interested in what the contestants were doing to earn a living before they did well on AI. Does Danny have a career beyond musical director at his Faith Healers Congregation or is that his full-time job? Also wondering why none of his singing was presented in the home town visit of Danny. I saw both Kris and Adam singing at various events, but not Danny. Was he too hoarse from his infamous 'scream'? I was unable to attend any of the Gokey events.

Danny has the voice and ability to continue to go far. Getting a marketable cd out quickly and which appeals to the broad audience he can draw, then following up with another will be key. I realize he has a message to convey, but that comes out in his personality without it having to consume each song. I hope he can write some of his own material rather than depending on covers. I, for one, am waiting for a some great music from him, and no, I don't live in Wisconsin. Bring it on Danny!!!
