Here's a quick update on new projects from two Milwaukee bands, the BoDeans and The Gufs.
The Gufs are putting the finishing touches on a live DVD that will be released in 2008 as a part of the band's 20th anniversary year and celebration. Much of it was recorded on Oct. 6, 2006 at The Pabst Theater, but it will feature other content as well. Teasers are on YouTube.
The melodic rockers will headline the InterContinental Hotel's New Year's Eve bash called "Midnights." The event will highlight the cultures and New Year's Eve celebrations of Brazil, Jamaica and Bolivia. The Gufs and Northern Room provide the local flavor in the hotel's remade Grand Salon.
The BoDeans get in the Christmas and holiday spirit with a new live recording featuring 12 songs. The band calls "Live at the Fox" an "official bootleg" that was recorded during rehearsals at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colo., in 2006. Available on the band's Web site, the release also features two drummers Noah Levy and Kenny Aronoff. The BoDeans' NYE show is at The Fine Line in Minneapolis. They play Madison's Barrymore Theater on Dec. 28, and have just added a February 15 show at the Northern Lights Theatre at Potawatomi Bingo Casino.
