OK, so you know in the Avett-Brothers-coming-to-the-Riverside article this morning when I said that would be the last concert announcement for this already jam-packed week of concert announcements? Well, I lied.

This morning, Summerfest announced that the country duo of Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker will come to the American Family Insurance Amphitheater for Labor Day weekend on Saturday, Sept. 1, as a part of their "Summer Plays On Tour."

Formed in 2006, Lady Antebellum has become one of the most popular acts in country music. The trio exploded into the spotlight with the hit song "Need You Now," which won four of the group's overall seven Grammys in 2011 – including both Song of the Year and Record of the Year over pop hits like Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" and Cee-Lo Green's "F*ck You." The band then released two albums in two consecutive years, 2013's "Golden" and 2014's "747," before taking a brief hiatus.

Two years later, however, Lady Antebellum returned with "Heart Break" in 2017, scoring two Grammy nominations (Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for "You Look Good") at last month's honors.

The Labor Day show will mark the group's first Milwaukee visit since headlining the Wisconsin State Fair in 2014.

Darius Rucker will also make his first Milwaukee appearance since 2014 during this country Labor Day twofer. Formerly a two-time Grammy winner for his work with Hootie and the Blowfish, Rucker impressively revamped his career into a country artist, winning another Grammy in 2013 for "Wagon Wheel" and releasing several hit records – most recently "When Was the Last Time" just last October.

Tickets for the tandem show will go on sale beginning Friday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m.

That, however, is not all Summerfest is serving up over Labor Day weekend. The Big Gig also announced the return of the Big Gig BBQ the following day on Sunday, Sept. 2, from noon until 7 p.m. at Henry Maier Festival Park's south end. This year's edition will feature the award-winning barbecue and tasty beer, as well as the live music, expert cooking demonstrations and Big Gig Pig Award for best professional barbecue, that have helped already make the cookout a late summer tradition in just two short years of existence. However, 2018 will cook up a new contest: a rib competition, open to everyone. For more information on the event, visit the Big Gig BBQ's official website.

So while you may be off for Labor Day, between these two events, Summerfest will have plenty to keep you busy.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
