We've got a long, eclectic lineup on this week's Local Music Podcast, including some brand spanking new music from Juniper Tar.
It starts with Southbound, a Milwaukee band with a penchant for drawn-out Southern rock. Yes, the band's probably best known for its annual Allman Brothers Band tribute set at Shank Hall, but the classic rock quintet has a ton of original material. Take a listen to "Born to Ramble" and check the band out this Saturday, Feb. 23 at BBC's Upper Lever.
John the Savage recorded a live EP at The Mad Planet last November and plans to return to the venue Saturday, Feb. 23. This six-piece features former and current members of El Oso, Sleep Tight Co. (previously known as Spransy & Kolb), Dangereqsue and Moonfire Funeral. Fable & The World Flat and Sleep Tight Co. open the show.
Thursday, Feb. 19 is Chick Singer Night, with host Alaria Taylor, at Caroline's Jazz Club. Taylor, Chick Singer Night's director, invited some of Milwaukee's most powerful female voices to perform, including Rhonda Begos, Jamie Brace (of the band Hounds Tooth), Jayme Dawicki, Windy Hope and Julie Moffitt. Admission to the show, which begins at 8 p.m., is $8. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Juniper Tar just released a new record and guess who has it? We do. That means you get to hear it if you're listening to this podcast. It's called "To The Trees" and there is an actual listening party Wednesday night at Burnhearts in Bay View. There might be an acoustic set, as well. If you can't make it Wednesday, see the band live at Turner Hall on Friday, Feb. 22, opening for Limbeck. John Ralston and The Candliers are also on the bill.
