We've taken a few week's hiatus to allow Brent Gohde to fully recover from WMSE's Spring Membership Drive, but now it's May, the weather is warm and we're back in downloadable form. Please enjoy the following.
It's a podcast of new proportions, which is to say each of the four songs we play this week is brand spankin' new to us, and hopefully you as well.
It begins with Quinn Scharber and the ... (yes, the ellipses are a part of the name). The band's new record is called "Being Nice Won't Save Milwaukee," and we play opener "Latest Flame." If being nice can't save our fair city, then perhaps live music can. See Quinn and crew this Friday, May 23 at the Cactus Club with Now & Never Again, The New Loud and Mr. Russia.
I ROCK Z comes out of the woodwork with a new collection of rockers, as well. The band decided that "Yeah, That's Right" was the perfect name for the new album and Brent and I decided that "The Runner" was a tasty example of what you can expect should you make it out to the BBC'S Upper Level with Saturday, May 24. Milwaukee's Chief and Test Site are also on the bill.
Are you familiar with Fly Neurotic? Don't be taken aback by the drawing of a fetus inside a human ear on the cover of its new release "Ultrasound" -- the band is poppy, punky and pretty damn good. See for yourself at Stonefly Brewing Co. this Thursday, May 22 with Rue Royale.
We cap it off with the Plexi 3, an energetic ensemble that recently underwent a lineup change to include bassist Adam Widener. The band recently played live in the studio at WMSE and we play a track from that set. See the trio this Saturday, May 24 at Linneman's Riverwest Inn with MHZ, Test Patterns.
