This morning, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra announced that it will take over The Pabst Theater for two long weekends in May for a bevy of Beethoven.
From Thursday, May 14 through Sunday, May 17, MSO will be performing Beethoven's Eighth, originally composed back in 1812 during a time when the famous composer was becoming increasingly deaf. The weekend's concerts will also include Beethoven's Overture to "The Creatures of Prometheus," Peter Eotvos's "Shadows" and Vivian Fung's Violin Concerto, featuring violinist Kristin Lee. Joining Lee and MSO for this collection of Pabst performances will be guest conductor Daniel Cohen.
That weekend's shows are:
- Thursday, May 14: 7:30 p.m.
- Friday, May 15: 8 p.m.
- Saturday, May 16: 8 p.m.
- Sunday, May 17: 2:30 p.m.
For the following long weekend, MSO will be performing Beethoven's Fifth, one of the most well-known and frequently played symphonies. The performances will also include Sean Shepherd's "These Particular Circumstances," Nico Muly's "So Far So Good" and Feldman's "Madame Press Died Last Week at Ninety." Joining MSO for this concert is another guest conductor, Edwin Outwater.

- Friday, May 22: 8 p.m.
- Saturday, May 23: 8 p.m.
- Sunday, May 24: 2:30 p.m.
Tickets for the concerts go on sale starting Friday, Jan. 9 at noon. Reserved seating prices start at $25 and range to $90.
