MSO, Gufs set summer shows together
The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Milwaukee alt-rockers, The Gufs, team up this summer as part of the U.S. Bank Summer Concert Series at the end of June. It's the first time a local band has partnered in such capacity with the MSO.
The concerts, part of The Gufs' 20th anniversary, take place June 25-29 in four Milwaukee County Parks including: near the old coast guard station on the Lakefront, Boerner Botanical Gardens, Washington Park and the Milwaukee County Zoo.
The partnership with the MSO, said drummer Scott Schwebel, is "in celebration of 20 years of the Gufs and our relationship with Milwaukee." Schwebel brought the idea for the collaboration to the MSO who fully embraced it and helped secure the sponsors that also include Target.
"We are thrilled to partner with U.S. Bank, Target and the Greater
Milwaukee Foundation to present these free concerts in Milwaukee's
beautiful county parks. This year's unique collaboration with the Gufs
allows the MSO to reach new audiences who like to hear classical music with a twist, " said Jenna Kashou, corporate relations mananger at the MSO.
Although some details are still being finalized, the first rehearsal for the two groups is June 3 and this is the tentative schedule:
Wednesday, June 25 -- Boerner Botanical Gardens, 7 p.m.
Thursday, June 26 -- Milwaukee Lakefront (just north of the Brady St. bridge), 8:30 p.m.
Friday, June 27 -- Washington Park, 7 p.m.
Sunday, June 29 -- Milwaukee County Zoo, 2:30 p.m.
