Costume changes are not just for Prince or stadium rockers anymore.
In fact, even at a small 2005 show at the Abbey Pub in Chicago, Of Montreal's dynamic frontman Kevin Barnes changed his outfit no less than four times. It'll be interesting to see what kind of theatrical performance the band has for us now that last year's "Hissing Fauna, Are you the Destroyer?" has launched it into bigger venues to play before much bigger audiences.
Of Montreal releases its ninth album, "Skeletal Lamping" (Polyvinyl), on Oct. 7 and hits the road shortly thereafter. Expect Barnes and crew to bring their "avant-disco" to Milwaukee's Pabst Theater Sunday, Oct. 26.
Judging by the photo above, there's no doubt Barnes has kicked it up a few notches over the years.
Athens, Ga.-based Of Montreal blurs the lines between indie dance punk and a sort of psychedelic pop that occasionally goes on electro binges. Lyrically, Barnes saunters between gleeful proclamations and self-deprecating despair, but, to be sure, the dance party is ever-present.
Tickets go on sale Friday, July 18 at noon and are $17.50. They are available at The Pabst Theater box office, www.pabsttheater.org and www.tickets.com, and (414) 286-3663 or (800) 511-1552.
