The Whigs, a hard-charging, garage-rock trio from Athens, Ga., opened for Kings of Leon Wednesday night at the Eagles Ballroom. After supporting The Kooks on a recent tour, it was The Whigs' first night with KOL and the band was happy with its set.
Here is the intro to the next day's entry from the band's blog:
Last night we ripped in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and awoke to find that someone had broken into our van. Here is a list of things that did and did not get stolen ...
THINGS THAT DID NOT GET STOLEN:
1. NONE of our musical equipment was stolen
2. ZERO out of three laptops were stolen
THINGS THAT DID GET STOLEN BY THIS THIEF / GENIUS:
1. Matt's prescription reading glasses
2. our 1997 stereo unit (worth perhaps $40)
3. $150 cash lying directly next to an Apple Laptop which was NOT stolen.
4. Julian's iPod
5. Tim's sunglasses
6. Cookies from a tupperware bin (not the entire bin!!!) that were baked for us by fans in St. Louis. Actually, not only did he open the bin and steal a few cookies, but he took a bite out of a cookie and put it BACK in the bin. Dear Lord.
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
We feel badly for The Whigs and promise to provide them with fresh homemade cookies the next time they visit Milwaukee.
In the meantime, we urge everyone to check out the band's music and Web site.

BandLastWaltz - You won't attend any concerts at Turner Hall or the Pabst because they're non-profit entities? Why would you let politics get in the way of seeing a great show? I have my reasons for not going to the Rave aside from the break-in...it's just that it was the last straw for me. Overpriced drinks, rude security and a few other things drove me away as well. But profit or non-profit, I'd still go to the concert if I want to see the band bad enough.

Obviously this had nothing to do with the Rave, as they awoke to find themselves robbed. They certainly didnt sleep in the venues parking lot! Way to pin two entirely unrelated incidents together to fabricate a false news story. Thats like me getting robbed at home after a concert and claiming it was the Raves fault. The Kings of Leon show was one of the best Ive ever seen. It was one giant party. Sounded great, looked great, was an absolutely spectacular night. I love how people are so quick to criticize the one venue in Milwaukee that is family-owned and pays taxes. And The Rave has no control over the location you cant relocate an historical building erected in the early 1900s, and the city has done absolutely nothing to help them. That neighborhood is downright tame compared to the places into which you must delve to see a decent band in Chicago. Im a lawyer and will never deign to frequent the Turner Junkhall or any other place that is exempt from taxes due to political tap-dancing. I typically do not post in response to junk articles, but the number of unfounded attacks on private companies is entering the realm of the absurd.

Let me get this straight? These guys went somewhere to sleep (presumably a hotel) and left $150 in cash, at least one iPod and three laptops in their van? Hmm. They don't sound a whole lot smarter than the thief. Those all sound like things you could easily take into the hotel with you.

Ah, The Rave. Great bands, lousy location. After my car fell victim to a smash-and-grab (in their paid lot!), I was done with them. The jacket that was stolen was worth about $20. The window replacement was $150.

The Rave is THEE reason why I didn't go to that show for which I considered to have 3 strong bands on one bill ; I actually have CDs by all three bands. I would have seen them in a heartbeat at Turner Ballroom and would have brought my 13yo son to boot, but the venue/location was the overriding factor- and now bands are starting to find that out too- the hard way.
