The origin of the word "ka" dates back to ancient Egypt. Although its exact definition is vague, "ka" is considered to be the etheric double of the physical body. Whereas the "ba" was thought of as the soul, one's ka would walk the Earth during sleep and haunt the tomb after death.
Ka, the band, formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the spring of 1996, and has since played both electric and acoustic shows in the Milwaukee-Chicago area. The band showcases their diversity by combining progressive rock aesthetics with hardcore punk and metal. This material is offset by adventurous acoustic pieces which continue the band's emphasis on exploration and intriguing lyrics.
In 1999 the band released a full length 11-song CD entitled "The Wheel Of Ka", following on the heels of their debut self-titled album. Both releases enjoy regular airplay on local stations.
Ka is also a dedicated live band whose enthusiasm for the stage and emphasis on musical competence characterizes their performances.
Ka prefers not to limit themselves to categorization. Instead the aim of this band is to create music that compels them to play.
