So begins Chills, one of the thirteen tracks on Jason Niosi's debut release, A Thousand Tragic Girls. It's a good indication of the emotional territory his songs survey. Jason's songs paint a landscape of abuse, subterfuge, loss, chicanery, the short and long con, but along the way there are flashes of real joy and humor. Kinda like real life where the grown ups are children and the children aren't too far behind.

The album kicks off with the upbeat "How Do You Know?", a raucous examination of wondering if that new someone is "the one." The bittersweet "Mister Brown's" (a finalist in the March 2004 Song of the Year contest), is a poignant reflection on a childhood friend killed by a drunk driver. Other standouts include the tender and hopeful "Flowers on the Side of the Road" and "Come On," possibly the funniest song ever written about desperate men trying to pick up women in bars.

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Jason made Milwaukee, Wisconsin his home in 2003. Besides writing and performing music, Jason is a public relations professional. Despite the themes of many of the songs here, Jason is newly married and is planning a family.

The CD was produced, mixed and mastered by Terry Vittone. Jason plays the acoustic guitar and sings lead vocals, occasionally at the same time.

When asked if there were really a thousand tragic girls in his past, Jason thought for a minute and replied "Well, nah, but it sure feels like it."
