For the eighth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Locavore, the newest restaurant at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2014."

Schlitz Park President Gary Grunau has officially announced that the Brown Bottle Pub will reopen Monday, Nov. 17 in the former Schlitz Brewery complex at 221 W. Galena St.

The restaurant will begin with lunch and happy hour service, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., expanding to include dinner on Monday, Dec. 1. A patio is slated to open in spring.

Grunau also announced that Ben Hudson, who previously worked at Bacchus, will be the executive chef at the restaurant, which has been vacant since Libiamo closed in 2012.

That restaurant had replaced the original Brown Bottle Pub which operated until 2004. The space was originally home to the Schlitz Brewing Co. tasting room, which opened in 1938 in the Stock-House building complex.

"We want to honor Brown Bottle’s rich history by providing a nod to old world pub fare while offering a more modern style of food and atmosphere in a comfortable and convenient Downtown location," Grunau in a statement issued this morning.

Hudson said in the statement that the Brown Bottle will serve a mix of classic pub fare and comfort foods.

"Special attention will be paid to locally sourced foods from Wisconsin; vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options; and wholesome offerings," he added.

"We’re excited to introduce the Brown Bottle to a new era of guests and make it a dining destination in the Downtown and Brewers Hill areas whether to meet with colleagues or gather with friends," said Hudson, who is a graduate of the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in Portland, Ore.

Davíans, which runs Schlitz Park's Schlitz Park Café in the RiverCenter and The Brew, which recently opened in the Stock-House, will operate the new Brown Bottle.

On Friday, OnMilwaukee.com reported that the newly reopened restaurant would host a fundraiser on Nov. 19.

Once dinner service is added, the Brown Bottle will be open Mondays-Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 4 to 10 p.m.
