Georgia on my mind
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili meets today with Sen. Joe Biden, the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president. And, they're meeting this morning at The Pfister Hotel!
Remember when Helmut Kohl came to Milwaukee with Bill Clinton?
That's what this reminds me of, even if Saakashvili doesn't have the same international stature as Kohl and Georgia isn't quite as influential as the largest country in Western Europe.
There have been famous world summits in all sorts of places, and although this is certainly not a major meeting, it still feels kind of exciting to think it's happening right here.
The bomb sniffing dogs were out, along with the Secret Service and probably security from Georgia, too. Perhaps the only person obviously missing is Republican Party vice presidental candidate Sarah Palin. Too bad; her expertise in Russian affairs might have proved helpful.

If you think the woman in this video is worthy even of the vice presidency, then I worry about your judgment...

I can't wait to hear who you'll blame for her ineptitude. Probably Katie Couric's fault for asking a simple question.

Has Obama ever been to Russia and/or Georgia prior to his decision to run for President? Me thinks his experience with both of those coutries is about the same as Palin's...except that Obama is running for President, not VP.

Your last line cracked me up. They can compare their views or swap pictures of what they can see of Russia.

Let's put the "front" back in Front Street
Published May 16, 2013
For a variety of reasons, I've been thinking about Front Street, which now seems so ironically named, fronting as it does onto nothing and serving as the ultimate definition of a Milwaukee "backstreet." In my mind, I see something much different that can be seen on the block today.

Urban Spelunking: Prospect Mall renovation
Published May 10, 2013
A plan emerged last year to bring new life to the Prospect Mall on the East Side. We got a peek inside yesterday.

The bowling alleys are long gone, but the loss has never affected the popularity of The Horse & Plow pub in The American Club at Kohler.
