Get Stack'd on fish
Stack'd is a burger bar, especially in name. But the Walker's Point eatery, at 170 S. 1st St., has succumbed to Milwaukee tradition and serves a Friday fish fry, offered from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. every Friday.
There are a few options to be had -- including walleye in Lakefront Riverwest Stein tempura and Champagne-battered cod -- but last Friday I tried a sort of mix of the two: cod in Lakefront Riverwest Stein tempura.
The batter is crisp and rich and the portions generous. As you can see from the photo, you get two good-sized pieces of cod, that are flaky and tasty.
You know I'm disappointed by the lack of potato pancakes as a side, but I did get some of what must be the world's largest onion rings, along with a rye dinner roll, tartar sauce and a peppery-good oil and vinegar coleslaw.
Other options include fries, seasonal fruit and Stack'd's three-cheese Twisted Mac N Cheese. Next time, I'm going for that.
Prices range from $10 to $14.

Looks tempting. I've had rather disappointing service there in the past but it's been a while. I'd take a gamble on the service to try this.

A big fan of behind the scenes visits, I've traversed catwalks soaring high over concert stages, descended into the basements of schools and gone pretty much anywhere folks with keys will let me go. If news that local jazz musician and organizer Jamie Breiwick has yet another new release comes as a bit of a shock, you're not alone. The ever-occupied, constantly creating Breiwick is a musical force of nature. His new record, "Music of Thelonious Monk: Friday the 13th," is available only as a free download. Breiwick says the release wasn't something he planned.

Soulful blues outfit Tweed Funk is still a baby, formed just 18 months ago. But in that time, the quartet has become a household name in the Midwestern blues scene. Believe it or not, the group's already got a second disc ready to launch at a release party this Friday at Shank Hall. "Love Is" was co-produced by local guitar giant Greg Koch.
