Milwaukee band Ikarus Down has only played a handful of gigs this summer, but the important thing is that it is playing the right venues. Performing at festivals with built in crowds is a dream come true for a band mainly because the audience is generally bigger than what band members are used to playing at small clubs.
It's an opportunity to grab hold of a new fan base by doing little pre-promotion. But, if the band doesn't step up and play a good set, that also means those potential fans won't be back. It's a good thing Ikarus Down has more than enough talent and great songs to keep people engaged.
The band is made up of Jonathan Ferrer, Ryan Gardiner, Daniel Langkammer and Patrick Masimore, who rehearse at least once a week but lately have been focusing more of their time on writing new music for an EP that should be out in November. As most Milwaukee bands do, the members of Ikarus Down have to make a living aside from playing music, but as you will hear in today's Kramp Cast, their work connections can also have a positive effect on the band's fan base and gigs.
Ikarus Down is coming off of a big performance at Summerfest and are ready for this weekend's Brady Street Festival. A festival that I feel has one of this summer's best lineups. Uncle Larry, Ivy Spokes, Vic & Gab, I'm Not A Pilot, Hugh Bob & The Hustle and many more will be playing the nine block stretch of Brady Street this Saturday. Plus, there's a cheese curd eating contest that Ryan and Daniel of Ikarus Down think their bandmate Patrick could win hands down.
In today's Kramp Cast Ryan Gardiner and Daniel Langkammer of Ikarus Down join me to talk about playing festivals in Milwaukee, their day jobs, their favorite "Star Wars" movie, plus we get to hear a special acoustic version of "Confidence" from the band's "Friction" CD. Enjoy!
