For the eighth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Locavore, the newest restaurant at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2014."

Last week we reported that Uncanny Soup Co. was coming to Water Street and opening soon. I stopped over for a first look -- and the soup of the day.

Uncanny Soup Co. has four homemade soups every day, plus two specials. The every-day options include jambalaya, baked potato (add your toppings), chili, chicken vegetable (add in pasta, rice or dumplings) and cream of tomato parmesan. Today the specials were cheesy chicken enchilada and cheesy broccoli. Soup prices start at $4.50 for a cup and $6 for a bowl -- both come with homemade bread, which is a small roll.

New soup for you!

There was a hefty opening day crowd in the updated space at 612 N. Water St. that previously housed a sub shop.

I opted for a bowl of the special cheesy chicken enchilada. The soup had a good base heat for the enchilada flavor and had shredded chicken and pieces of softened tortilla through out. Cheesy was an apt heading for this soup -- it was indeed cheesy and melty goodness.

The daily special of cheesy enchilada with bread and a side salad.

The menu also includes a variety of sandwiches -- including "Mom's Meatloaf" and a rolled pork sandwich -- that sounded like must-trys. You can opt to do your typical half and half. The breakfast frittata on flatbread also sounded intriguing and, at $5.25, it includes coffee.

Uncanny Soup Co. is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and you should also look for the soups at your local supermarket.

Carolynn Buser is one of Milwaukee's loudest and most adamant cheerleaders (don't dare try to disagree). She's the primary voice behind much of OnMilwaukee's social media and content direction, and apologizes in advance if she can be too sarcastic at times.

What else? She's a wine lover, closet trashy novel reader, beauty supplies addict and devourer of cheese (shocker for a Wisconsin born and bred girl, right?). She's also a bit of a foodie, which is a word most of you hate, we know. She works as hard as she plays - and that includes in the gym! So, you've probably seen her at one of the area's newest restaurant openings (and yes, she will share her opinions good or bad) or enjoying a cold one at a local pub.

All in all, Carolynn's a believer in positive thinking and will do her best to smack down your negative ones while writing about her city, her loves, quests and more.
