I can't remember the last time I looked forward to a TV show that didn't involve a sporting event.
But, I'm getting pretty jacked for "Conan."
Conan O'Brien's new show, which launches Nov. 8 on TBS, is going to be destination TV -- at least for the first couple weeks. I've always enjoyed O'Brien's vibe -- from his first awkward steps on NBC to his way-too-short run as host of "The Tonight Show."
I think his show on cable is going to be a fresh alternative to David Letterman, whose bits are hit and miss, and Jay Leno, who stopped being relevant several years ago.
As the anticipation mounts for Conan's debut, I'm loving the announcement of early guests (Seth Rogen, Jack White, Tom Hanks, etc.) and I'm even enjoying the endless stream of promos during TBS' presentation of the baseball playoffs (they don't seem as obtrusive as the "FrankTV" spots featuring Milwaukee's own Frank Caliendo).
Now, Conan's show may end up being more sizzle than steak. It may be a show that I watch for a month and then relegate to occasional check-in status while I watch "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" on the DVR.
But, I'm going to give it a strong shot. And, I'm actually excited about a TV show that airs someplace besides HBO.
