Are we facing the "Curse of RiverSplash?"
This is the first time in 20 years that Downtown is not hosting RiverSplash! -- which served as the unofficial kickoff to Milwaukee's summer festival season.
RiverSplash! dissolved quietly last fall/winter, and it's already hard to remember specifics from the festival, other than it always seemed to rain during the first weekend of June.
It was almost uncanny. People would walk around Water Street (and often 3rd Street), buy beer from stands, listen to bands and get soaked.
One of my friends took to calling it "The most aptly-named festival in town."
Now that RiverSplash! is no longer, we have other things to occupy the first weekend in June -- such as the inaugural VERGE Music Festival.
But, we still have rain. We haven't escaped that.Â

Was anyone else downtown Friday and notice it to be considerably less busy/buzz than past years (rain or not)? I have lived downtown for many years and the lack of Riversplash seems to have tamed downtown on what I recall to be a very busy (and profitable) weekend.
Just an observation.

Having worked at cellphone store downtown during the last 2 Riversplashes, I can tell you that it rained. There were a lot of insurance claims coming straight from Riversplash

At least we aren't thinking about festival names like "Snowdrift" or IceCrack" in June. It does feel like we need something here festival-wise, though.

"Soaked" is the appropriate term.
