To be Fair, it was a little too crowded
The Olson family headed to Wisconsin State Fair on Saturday afternoon expecting to follow the usual routine. We were going to sample various food items on a stick, to see some animals and check out the "As Seen on TV" products on display in the Expo Center.
For the most part, we were able to do all our favorite things over the course of about 3 1/2 hours. But, the large crowds made it difficult to maneuver through the grounds.
State Fair is doing a booming business this year, which is great news for everyone involved -- from director Rick Frenette down to the neighbor who turn their front yards into parking lots. The weather is perfect, which helps, and it seems as though people are embracing all aspects of the annual festival. Check that; lots of people are embracing the Fair. I've dealt with big crowds at the Fair for years, but today seemed especially packed.
If you haven't visited yet, don't let this report deter you. Just be prepared to navigate through slow-moving traffic jams prompted by strollers, Rascals and people who just like to move slowly.
At times Saturday, I felt like I was in Times Square. Of course, I've never seen chocolate covered bacon in Manhattan. My advice: take your time; do your favorite things first so that you can explore new adventures; be ready for big traffic jams, outside and inside the grounds.
