Milwaukee's premier producer battle, the Miltown Beat Down, is now accepting submissions for its 2011 edition.

Started six years ago by Jordan "Madhatter" Lee, the MTBD has grown into a regionally respected event with last year's winner Lex Luthor being awarded several prizes in addition to a slot in Red Bull's national producer battle, Big Tune.

The event grew out of Lee's desire to see more diversity and togetherness in Milwaukee's hip-hop scene, a scene that historically has been both ethnically and stylistically segregated.

Producers can now register for the 2011 Miltown Beat Down through the MTBD Web site.

Those who wish to register have from now until May 6 to do so, and 16 producers will be chosen for the battle. The 16 producers selected for the competition will be announced on May 9.

This year's Beat Down will consist of four preliminary battles, with four contestants in each battle and two contestants moving on to the finals from each preliminary battle.

The preliminary battles will take place on a series of Thursday's at Jackalope Lounj and Wicked Hop on May 12, 19, 26 and June 2. All of the battles at Jackalope are free to the public and 21 and older, and will feature DJ sets by Kid Cut Up.

The finals will be held at Turner Hall on June 10, with tickets being $15 in advance and $20 at the door. This show will be 18 and older and will continue the tradition of having special guest judges and performers, and more! Tickets are available for purchase now at the Turner Hall Web site.

Past winners of the event have been Lex Luthor, Jihad Baracus, Adlib, Magic Fingaz, Major On Da Beatz, J Todd, and Da Ricanstruckta.

Past judges for the event have been Questlove of The Roots, Maseo of De La Soul, Masta Ace, Jake One, Diamond D and D.A. Wallach of Chester French.

Prizes, guest judges, and sponsors will be announced at a later date.

Let the beat down begin!
