UPDATE: As it turns out, yes, George Mallet is indeed headed back to Milwaukee. Tuesday evening, WTMJ-TV announced that Mallet will join the channel's weeknight evening anchor team.

It's coming up on almost a year since longtime WTMJ-TV anchor Mike Jacobs retired, and a replacement for the station's 10 p.m. newscast has still yet to be named. There are Internet rumors and rumblings, however, that the spot may soon be officially filled – and by a familiar face: George Mallet.

According to the newsroom news and gossip site FTVLive.com, Mallet – who previously worked a stint at WTMJ from 2007 until 2010, when he departed for another TV job in Vermont – interviewed in Milwaukee and is now projected as "the frontrunner to get the job." In addition to its sources, the website also cites a recent tweet from Mallet about job-searching with Menomonee Falls tagged as the location.

Hm. Any other Twitter clues?

Hmmmm ...

HMMMMMMMM! But wait! A Twitter twist!

Those are all the clues Twitter has to provide for now, and from the sounds of it, nothing is official yet, so we shall see. In the meantime, here's our Milwaukee Talks from 2009 with the former WTMJ anchor. There's no clues in there, but there is a photo of equitation enthusiast Mallet standing next to a lovely horse.

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
