It's Day 8 of the Milwaukee Film Festival, and for today's three must-see picks, we're selecting some of the biggest stars of the festival. Here are your three to see for the day:

"Imperial Dreams"

Despite how great "Attack the Block" is, John Boyega is unfortunately not a household name yet. His upcoming lead appearance in a small little intergalactic conflict film coming out this Christmas will almost surely change that, but before then, you should check out his turn in the infinitely smaller-budgeted "Imperial Dreams," a drama about an ex-con trying to make a new life for himself and his young son. Check out this sure-to-be star before he goes supernova this winter.

"Imperial Dreams" shows today at 7 p.m. at the Avalon Theater, as well as Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Downer Theatre and Monday, Oct. 5 at 4:30 p.m. at the Times Cinema.

"He Named Me Malala"

"He Named Me Malala," a documentary about the young womens' education advocate and Nobel Peace Prize winner, is likely the biggest film on the Milwaukee Film Festival slate this year. Davis Guggenheim's latest doc – his past works include "An Inconvenient Truth" and "Waiting for Superman" – is almost a guaranteed Best Documentary nominee, especially considering his past resume, not to mention MFF Audience Award contender. But more importantly, however, it's almost a guaranteed inspirational experience.

There's only the one screening at the festival, but have no fear if it loads up before you can get a seat; it's coming to Milwaukee yet again at the end of the festival for its regular release. But who doesn't want to brag about seeing the big, new movies before everyone else?

"He Named Me Malala" shows today at 4:15 p.m. at the Downer Theatre.

"My Love, Don't Cross That River"

"My Love, Don't Cross That River" may not have any of the stars that "Imperial Dreams" or "He Named Me Malala" feature. But even so, the documentary became the most successful Korean indie movie of all time, beating out "Interstellar" on its opening weekend in South Korea. Take that, Space McConaughey! Impressive for a documentary simply about an elderly couple coming to the end of their time together on Earth, but far from coming to the end of their love for one another.

"My Love, Don't Cross That River" shows today at 4:15 p.m. at Fox-Bay Cinema, as well as Friday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre.

Matt Mueller Culture Editor

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
