A gift a day: CityTins
Gift certificates have long been the go-to gift for the hard to shop for family member, friend or co-worker on your holiday list. Although a touch generic, they've always been a good way to send someone on a new adventure or help them enjoy an old favorite.
But this year, CityTins is making it nice and easy for you to keep your gift certificate giving local and original. CityTins, brand new this holiday, is a set of 22 coasters, each representing an independent restaurants in town. Select a coaster from the tin, bring it to the restaurant and receive $10 off your bill.
The makers of CityTins have gathered a list of great Milwaukee eateries; I'd recommend each and every one of them as one of the top stops in the city.
The participating restaurants include AJ Bombers, Beans & Barley, Cafe Centraal, Cafe Hollander, COA, Hinterland Erie Street Gastropub, Juniper 61, Kil@wat, Lulu Cafe, Mason Street Grill, Maxie's Southern Comfort, Meritage, Metro Bar & Cafe, Milwaukee ChopHouse, Motor, Nanakusa, North Star American Bistro, Swig, Tess, Trinity Three Irish Pubs, Trocadero and Water Buffalo.

It's wonderful to read these varied posts. My partner and I created CityTins as a way local venues could benefit, while we had a fundraising vehicle for the elementary schools our children attend. We were looking to offer anything other than the wrapping paper and pizza that flood homes this time of year! But our hope is that CityTins will benefit several nonprofits a year with the continuation of our program. It really is a win-win for all involved.
We've come a long way, and our development continues as this is the pilot year for CityTins. We welcome all recommendations, including other restaurants you'd like to see in future editions. The FB site was launched because we wanted to go grassroots and raise awareness before the tins arrive (and while our web site is being built).
Thank you for your interest. Please email me at TARA@CITYTINS.COM and I'll be happy to take your order, send an invoice and mail you tins when they arrive from the printer!

I happen to frequent enough of those places to make this well worth my while, so I'd love to get them...once I figure out how...

Wow -- I think this is a fabulous concept. What a cool way to save some money and support local restaurants. Unlike exclamation point guy, I think these are terrific choices and I wish CityTins great success! Awesome gift idea.

There are way better eateries in S.E. WI than those listed. It's VERY unfortunate that "groups" only seem to choose the "trendy" places v the really great restaurants!!!!!!!!!! You may as well have put the BBC on the list also!!!!!! Grow up!!!!!!!
