Sipping away the snow
"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun articles on bars and clubs -- including guides, the latest trends, rapid bar reviews and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!
Last night, as the possibility of a snow day emerged, a few friends said that if all else failed, they’d walk to their corner bar and spend the day waiting for warmer temperatures and snow removal.
I started thinking about a neighborhood bar that could be the source of all-day entertainment. Essentially, if you were stuck for the entire day, which bar would you want to make home?
Here are the top five that surfaced in my mind. Where would you go?
1. Maxie’s Southern Comfort -- It doesn’t open until 4 p.m. but you’ll feel the southern heat as you sit down for mojitos and margaritas. Oh, and it has delicious, delicious cornbread.
2. Palomino -- I rode out an electrical outage at the Palomino last winter and hence, it has a special place in my heart for disaster refuge. Tap beer and a hot kitchen are all the necessary staples.
3. Landmark Lanes -- Can you say entertainment? Deep in the dungeon, weather systems disappear and you can rest safe in the bunker as you rotate your way through the ridiculous number of bar games including darts, bowling, pool and foosball.
4. At Random -- The idea of a "grandmother" figure serving me warm and sugary cocktails as I lounge in a red velvet booth is a great was to spend a snow day inside.
5. Comet Café -- Start with a Bloody Mary filled with bacon, followed by great tap beers, all alongside the cheesy tomato and special seasoned fries. Done and done.

I'd choose the Bomb Shelter. With over 300 beers to choose from I would spend the day on a beer tasting journey. And they have all the fun bar snacks such as pickled eggs, super pretzles, and bomb pops who could go wrong? Hopefully it would be a Tuesday so I could end my night with some great Rockabilly music by DJ Billy Boy Brad.
