First look: Casablanca on Brady's new addition / renovations
After more than a year of construction, Casablanca on Brady, 728 E. Brady St., celebrates the grand opening of its new addition today. We stopped by for a look, and we’re pretty blown away by the work.
The ground floor, which was once the entire restaurant, has the same layout as it did before, but the new paint, curtains, chandeliers and other light fixtures make it feel richer and warmer.
The second floor, connected by a beautiful staircase with ornate iron handrails, is stunning. There is so much natural light, large plants, fresh flowers, more interesting and elegant light fixtures and a massive mirror on one wall.
The new terrace wraps around the second floor addition on the south and west sides. The south-side terrace provides more of a private dining experience because it features booths, but the large west end has a more communal feel to it. Both feel very upscale yet comfortable.
The grand opening continues into the night with belly dancing, music, drink specials and more, so if you’re out and about tonight, stop by. And for the record, at $7.95, the vegetarian lunch buffet is still one of the best deals in town.

Maybe to fully appreciate Dretzka's Department Store in Cudahy one should approach it more as a living museum of mid-century clothing and household items rather than a shopping destination. But then again, few escape a trip to Dretzka's without buying at least one quirky item.
