A restaurant for dogs?
For the fifth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Concordia University. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2011."
Last night, I had a dream that The National Cafe, which is currently up for sale, reopened as a pet restaurant. I am not sure why I had this dream, considering I do not have any pets, but it is Dining Month at OnMilwaukee.com and perhaps that fact oozed into my dreamspace.
In any case, this morning, I Googled "pet restaurants" and found one in London, called Lily's Kitchen, that opened last November. Could this concept ever work in Milwaukee?
I remember when there was a pet bakery on Brady Street – which didn't make it – but we do currently have a dog fitness gym and multiple doggy daycares in town. Plus, I have been invited to a couple of dog birthday parties – and once a birthday party for a monkey.
But a Brew City restaurant for dogs? It doesn't sound like something we practical Milwaukeeans would spend our hard-earned money on, but who knows. Caregivers get nutty about their pets – I know, I was one for 13 years and he was so pure and chocolate-eyed that I will never have the heartspace for another. (Oh, and they are SO much work.) But I digress.
Although it's humorous to imagine entree items like Pug-hetti and meatballs or German Shepherds pie, it seems potentially complicated and smelly. Even with linoleum floors and a dedicated cleaning staff, the place would probably be a Dirty Dining gold mine.
How about a bar just for dogs? They drink beer, don't they?

Just because a woman turns 35 or 38 or 40 doesn't mean her wardrobe has to become a wasteland of frump and "mom jeans." Especially these days, when 40 is supposedly the new 30. But are there fashion dos and don'ts for middle-aged women?
