For the seventh straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2013."

I have been on a lox kick lately.

It’s kinda funny because I went through life thinking I didn't like it, when in reality, I never tried the brined salmon before. It must have been one of those foods I declared gross as a kid while eating at Benji’s with my dad and never bothered to check back in with it once my taste buds matured.

Recently, it occurred to me that I probably would like lox – which is derived from the Yiddish word for "salmon" – because I love sushi so much. And lo and behold, I ate a bagel with lox, cream cheese and capers – at Benji’s – and have been on the hunt for fresh lox ever since.

So. Any suggestions? I had some good stuff at Cafe at the Plaza recently, as well, but looking for new and exciting places to devour raw fish for breakfast.
