The best food deal at The Fair. Period.
Two bucks for a gooey-delicious, locally-sourced sandwich that you didn't make at home deserves a shout-out, so here it is.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good deals at the Wisconsin State Fair, but I declare the grilled cheese sandwich available in the Wisconsin Products Pavilion at the Fair the best deal on the fairgrounds.
For $2, you can get a Wisconsin cheddar or Swiss cheese grilled cheese sandwich or three sandwiches for $5.
"This is an affordable way to feed a family," says Katy Katzman, the executive director for the Dairy Promotion Board at the Fair.
According to Katzman, the team of workers will make about 50,000 sandwiches during the 11-day fair. They will use 1,000 pounds of butter and 6,000 pounds of Sargento's cheese (made in Plymouth).
The price has stayed the same since the sandwich was introduced in 2007.
"It's a great value and we are here to remind how good a grilled cheese sandwich tastes and how easy it is to go home and replicate it," says Katzman.
