Treats Tavern, 2221 N. Humboldt Ave., will close for good on Saturday, Jan. 17. Owner Mark Smukalla passed away in April 2014 and his daughter, Erica Dennis, decided not to renew the lease.

The space has been home to a tavern for 120 years. I was late to the party and did not start stopping in occasionally until late 2012. I appreciated the diversity of the scene – always a comfortable blend of races and lifestyles.

Bartender Jessica Schlitz will work on Treats' last night. "I will really miss the place. So many good people and good times," says Schlitz.
