The 8th annual Fred Usinger Day at the Old German Beer Hall takes place on Monday, Feb. 23 which means it’s a day to celebrate the legacy of Usinger's sausages by consuming free sausages and beer.

It’s true – in honor of the successful business that started in 1880, the Old German Beer Hall – located across the street from the original Usinger’s store at 1009 N. Old World 3rd St. – will serve up free sausages from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. or while supplies last.

At 6 p.m. Frederick "Fritz" Usinger IV will tap a keg of Hofbräu Märzen beer to continue the celebration for those 21 and over.

The event will also include live music from Ferdinand Buchel & Tony Gorenc at 11:30 a.m. and the Brewhouse Polka Kings from 4:45 to 8 p.m.

"The Usinger family and their sausage are iconic in the city's history. They embody the perseverance and success of German immigrants in Milwaukee," says Hans Weissgerber III, owner of the Old German Beer Hall. "Usinger's is an international brand, visitors from around the world make a visit to Old World Third Street in large part because of their outstanding sausage."

Should be lederhosen fabulous. See you there?
