Nothing helps warm the cockles of your heart like a little nostalgia.

The Northern Lights Theater (NLT) at Potawatomi Bingo Casino would like to warm the dark days of winter this year with a heavy dose for classic rock fans, as the NLT will host four great shows in the first four months of 2014, including Styx, Foghat with Blue Oyster Cult, Winger and Dickey Betts & Great Southern.

First up is 80s multi-platinum hard rockers Winger – on Thursday and Friday Jan. 30 and 31. This tour is in celebration of the band’s 25th anniversary and includes founders Kip Winger and Reb Beach and longtime members John Roth and Rob Morgenstein. Tickets are $25 to $35 and are already on sale.

Styx has been a regular – and a huge favorite – on the Milwaukee music scene since the early ‘70s. The current Styx lineup featuring James Young, Tommy Shaw, Lawrence Gowan, Todd Sucherman and Ricky Phillps (sans original vocalist Dennis DeYoung) has been together for more than a decade and plays here at least twice a year.

They’re back for three nights at the NLT – Thursday, Friday and Saturday Feb. 20-22. Tickets are priced at $72 to $84 each and go on sale Jan. 3 at noon – online or at the NLT Box Office. I’d be shocked if all three of these shows don’t sell out immediately – so don’t wait to grab your tickets.

Wednesday, March 5 brings an FM-radio-favorite double header to the NLT:  Foghat with Blue Oyster Cult. Both bands have had key members pass away over the years – but frankly, the current incarnations sound great and do justice to the legacy of both bands. Tickets are $30 to $40 each and are on sale now.

Finally, Allman Brothers founding member and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dickey Betts and his band Great Southern swing through Milwaukee on Thursday, April 17.

Betts is considered one of rock’s all time great guitarists (he’s been on both Rolling Stone 100 greatest lists) and he’s now 70 years old, so if you haven’t seen him this might be one of your last opportunities to do so. Tickets go on sale on Jan. 17 at Noon and are priced at $30 to $40.
