Many experts were predicting as much as a 50 percent turnout today for the 2010 general election.

If that's the case, expect a mad rush this evening after work.

When I swung by Ward 55 to cast my ballot (at Convent Hill, 455 E. Ogden St.), I found no line whatsoever. I walked in, went right to the table, handed over my drivers license and received ballot No. 296.

On my way out, I stopped by the bake sale which featured delicious treats made by the ladies of Convent Hill, a city-operated housing complex for the elderly (and a pretty nice facility, at that.)

Since my baking abilities are greatly inferior to my cooking abilities -- and, I can't ever say no to a sweet, elderly woman peddling delicious treats -- I readily handed over $1.50 for a bag of chocolate chip cookies.

Then, after getting my change, I noticed a couple of cheesecakes sitting on the table, begging for somebody to enjoy them. Thinking the price was per slice, I asked for one. That's when I learned it was just $5 for the entire cake.

Diet be dammed, I guess.

All in all, a good day. No wait, no hassle to participate in one of my favorite activities ... and I came home with a cheesecake.
