Freddy Jones Band dishes up fruit to fans

Chicago’s The Freddy Jones Band brought its distinctive blend of blues, rock and folk music to the Northern Lights Theater at Potawatomi Bingo Casino Thursday night.

For a band built on touring and only just regrouped last year (the band broke up for nearly 5 years to pursue solo projects), FJB proved that it doesn’t need much tune up.

Even though it’s been 9 years since the release of “Lucid,” FJB’s last original album, loyalists didn’t seem to care.  The band opened with an instrumental-laden rendition of "The Puppet" as lead singer and acoustic guitarist Marty Lloyd blended his strong voice with those of guitarists Rob Bonaccorsi and Wayne Healy.

The 1:55 set included myriad FJB classics, including "Waitress" which was followed, oddly enough, by complimentary fruit provided by the band to those in the front row. The beneficiaries later reciprocated with a round of tequila shots for the band members.

"Take the Time" took up most of the encore, and seamlessly morphed its way through covers of U2's "With or Without You" and The Who's "Baba O'Riley.”
