Got what it takes to win the Soul Clap dance off? We'll judge that
One of the many cool things about working at OnMilwaukee.com is that you often get asked to do things you most certainly are not qualified for just because your picture is on the Internet.
I'm really excited about the most recent request, which came from Eric Uecke, owner of the Cactus Club at 2496 S. Wentworth Ave. Uecke asked me to help judge the New York Night Train's Soul Clap and Dance-Off, a traveling version of what is arguably the country's most popular regular soul party.
DJ Mr. Jonathan Toubin will man the turntables for the wild dance party, which kicks off at 10 p.m. April 29 and goes all night with a $100 dance-off wedged in somewhere.
I'll be joined at the judges table by two of Milwaukee's most knowledgeable experts on all things soulful: Andy Noble of Kings Go Forth and The Get Down fame, and "Flavor" Dave Monroe whose long running Soul Hole Monday nights at Burnhearts bar in Bay View are a thing of legend.
Lacking any sense of rhythm myself, I don't know how I fit in here, but I have watched hundreds of episodes of "Fame" and "Star Search."
So do me a favor and come on out and shake it so hard it will make it easy to pick you as the winner.
