Fear not, hoops fans: Time Warner to add HD truTV
Worried about watching Marquette or Wisconsin play their NCAA Tournament games in standard definition? Worry no more.
Time Warner Cable, the area's dominant cable provider, has reached a deal to carry truTV, one of three cable channels which, along with longtime NCAA broadcaster CBS, will carry games this year -- in high definition.Â
The high-def version of truTV will be available to Time Warner subscribers on channel 1220. The standard definition broadcast is available on channel 49 or digital channel 220. Charter, the state's second-largest cable provider, added truTV -- formerly Court TV -- to its lineup on Monday.
Both Wisconsin and Marquette play their opening games on truTV. The Badgers take on Belmont Thursday at 6:27 p.m. in Tucson, Ariz. and the Golden Eagles face Xavier Friday in Cleveland, also at 6:27 p.m.
CBS Sports will handle the bulk of the broadcast duties for the 30th straight year, but games will be spread over truTV, TBS and TNT in 2011, part a 14-year broadcast contract between the NCAA, CBS and Turner Broadcasting worth nearly $11 billion.Â
