The story of Goldilocks is pretty well known. A little blond girl breaks into a house owned by a family of anthropomorphic bears and proceeds to jack up their chairs, porridge and beds while they're out doing, I don't know, bear stuff. But what if, instead of being a cute little fairy tale girl with no respect for property, Goldilocks had some sense and happened to be just a little bit of a lush? Well, that'd be me. 

I've decided to explore every bar, pub, lounge and dive Milwaukee has to offer – in sets of three, just to be cute. Check back often as I embark on regular bar tours with my self-proclaimed "magical sidekick," Jessie. And don't worry – I'm too much of a taste chameleon to ever find one that's "just right."

Well, we've come to the end of the extended trio extravaganza. I'm not the kind of person that needs an excuse to celebrate, but I figured we'd give the Seeing Double run a good and cheery send-off. And what's more festive than 'ritas? They're colorful, they're boozy, and there's only one name that comes to my mind then I think of them: La Fuente.

Lucky for me (and you, since you're reading), that one name has two locations – the original in Walker's Point and the new location at 92nd and Bluemound – giving me the perfect excuse to get my lush slush fix.

La Fuente, 625 S. 5th St. and 9155 W. Bluemound Rd. 

Location and parking

There's street parking abound at both La Fuentes (Las Fuentes?). If you want to park close to the Walker's Point location you may have to deal with meters if you stop in for lunch or an early happy hour or dinner, but that'll only set you back a couple of quarters. As a nice bonus, spaces along 5th Street are diagonal, so that lie you told about your mad parallel parking skills will survive another day.

On the other hand, parking at La Fuente West may be free, but it'll cost you a bit of a walk. Spaces lining the surrounding streets and in the baby parking lot across the street fill up fast.

Either way, both are easy to find and easy to park around. Even if you have to make use of a side road, it won't take you too far away.

Winner: Walker's Point. Spots are easy to come by and easy to use, and free at night.

Atmosphere and layout

La Fuente in Walker's Point has great authenticity going for it. There's no real fight here. When La Fuente West remodeled the old Monreal's El Matador space they added plenty of their own touches, but still ended up with a weird kind of Matador/Fuente hybrid. A bullfighting fountain has potential, but there's no beating the original La Fuente's classic cantina style. It's like taking a trip to Mexico without all the hassle of passports and plane rides.

To both of their credits, though, each bar/restaurant is deceptively spacious. There are multiple dining rooms in each location, not including patio seating, so even when it's crowded you still get a good balance between bustling and intimate.

Winner: Walker's Point.

Outdoor seating

Again, this comes down to the authenticity for me. There's no denying that La Fuente West's patio is nice. It's brand spankin' new and it's decked out with a gorgeous fountain, flowers and a nice fence to tie it all together. If you replaced the Mexican food and margaritas with generic beer and pub grub, though, you'd never tell the difference.

However, the opposite is true in Walker's Point. Every corner of the expansive patio is distinctive, from the blue tiled fountains and counters to the decorated walls and fences framing the space.

Winner: Walker's Point. Bonus points for the outdoor bar, too.

Décor

The decorations at each La Fuente are very much the same. They're fun, they're festive and they're colorful. An interesting feature at La Fuente West, though, is the indoor fountain, which gives the dining room a taste of the garden-style patio even in the middle of winter.

Winner: La Fuente West. The indoor fountain rocks, and channels a little bit of Walker's Point with its blue tile.

Last call

There's no touching the original here. La Fuente's Walker's Point location makes a near clean sweep in my book. Its West Side sister might have the name, but it's very much the suburban version – La Fuente Lite. It's not at all bad, but if you want the full experience, hit up 5th Street. Also, it doesn't hurt that the margaritas are stronger there.
