No, no one actually agrees with this statement, but if establishments speak louder than words, there's some good evidence for the case if you live in Wisconsin.

An image floating around Facebook courtesy of a FloatingSheep.org blog color-codes our state almost entirely as having more bars than grocery stores. The graphic shows similar – but less prevalent – patterns in Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, the Dakotas and Montana, collectively labeling us "the beer belly of America."

That's not exactly breaking news for Wisconsinites, but it is kind of cringe-worthy, especially when it goes on to note more of our state stats that "peek out" from under the "T-shirt of data." Euw.

The blog also includes our ranking in terms of bar-to-population ratio (third) and our overall specialization in bars, which we dominate.

So like it or not, Wisconsin's awash in the sauce. Personally, I think we can have the top bar-to-population ratio title in the bag by next year. All our other stats are (cue rimshot).

Contrary to her natural state of being, Renee Lorenz is a total optimist when it comes to Milwaukee. Since beginning her career with OnMilwaukee.com, her occasional forays into the awesomeness that is the Brew City have turned into an overwhelming desire to discover anything and everything that's new, fun or just ... "different."

Expect her random musings to cover both the new and "new-to-her" aspects of Miltown goings-on, in addition to periodically straying completely off-topic, which usually manifests itself in the form of an obscure movie reference.
