Last night we braved the weather and went to Cafe Vecchio (1137 N. Old World Third St.) for the spinach and artichoke dip. It was about 5 degrees and snowing when we left. Vecchio has an inviting, yet upscale, candle-lit atmosphere. Jen and I were the only patrons in the cafe for the entire duration of our stay. We ordered up a couple drinks, the artichoke dip and a Mondo pizza (mozzarella and feta cheese, spinach, artichokes, marinara sauce). It was obvious why the artichoke dip made the list. It was really, really good. The pizza, while super thin and limp, was also very good. For obvious reasons, it tasted a little bit like the dip. The downside to Vecchio was the music. Every song that came on while we were there was really cheesy easy-listening (and I'm being very liberal with the word "easy"). For me, Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" really exemplified the play list. Also, don't plan on using the bathroom at Vecchio unless you are familiar with the astronomical symbol for man and woman. When I got up to wash my hands I wasn't sure if I found the men's room or Prince's dressing room. But the food? Amazing. Go to Cafe Vecchio Mondo. Here's the web site...
