Okay, I understand that St. Patricks day is on Monday. But let's be honest, it's hard to get off for a wedding, let alone a drinking holiday. I am having a hard time finding places with live music on Saturday, all day? Not just at night?
Can the drunkard, music-loving readers of OnMilwaukee.com point me to day-time irish music on Saturday?
Thanks and stay sharp.

Sorry I didn't see your Blog until now. Obviously, this is a bit late, relative to St. Pat's 2008.
But....
As the blog was being written, our traditional Irish band was listed on the OnMilwaukee.com Calendar for two gigs, one on Saturday 15 March, and one on the big day itself. The locations were Sheridan's Cafe and Triskele's Restaurant.
Our band (based in South Milwaukee) is The Garlic Mustard Pickers, Inc.. (We may be unique among Celtic bands in the Milwaukee area, in that a big chunk of our gig earnings get donated to community service projects.)
We're on the web at www.TheGarlicMustardPickers.org
If you didn't get enough Irish music on St. Pat's, come down to St. Francis to hear us at Fixx Coffee House on April 7th - another gig that is (or should be) listed in the OnMilwaukee calendar.
So, I suppose the question to the OnMilwaukee staff is: How do we get our band identified as a Celtic traditional band, so that people can find us when they want to hear that kind of music? Any suggestions on this would be welcome.
Thanks! Don Lawson / Treasurer, The Garlic Mustard Pickers, Inc.

Frogwater and Reilly are playing -- for some great Irish traditional, Frogwater at John Hawk's Pub from 3 to 5pm. For Irish rock, Reilly at The Monkey Bar, 1619 S. 1st.
Then be sure to head to Slim McGinn's, 338 S. 1st St., for some great Irish/Scottish traditional music from 7 to 10pm.

We will have live Irish music on both Saturday and Sunday (during the day) at Discovery World. Apparently, the Irish Cultural Heritage Center was able to find a couple of bands to play for our St. Patrick's Day events. We are open 9 - 5, and the bands will play during the afternoon hours. You can see the details of what else we are doing at Discovery World at http://www.discoveryworld.org/shamrock.php. Green beer, a lecture on the Irish in Milwaukee by John Gurda, Root beer for the kids, and much more. Come on down to the lakefront.

St. Patrick's Day is a big payday for any bar/club owner. Your chances are probably going to be slim to none to find any establishment hosting an all day bash with Irish music two days beforehand.
