It's given that life in the city will bring mishaps, theft, tickets... even accidents. Some of the worst accidents are bike accidents due to the fact that a driver doesn't see a bicyclist, or even realize that they are hogging the bike lane. To it's credit Milwaukee has taken some effort to make the city streets safer and create bike lanes in areas where it it possible to do so. They have a long way to go and really considering they are skimping on salt this winter due to cost, i don't think they are going to go apey over more manhours (or womanhours) to increase city budgets.

Even less than a year ago, current county executive thought that $80,000 to install bike racks on city buses. Has this guy ever visited another urban area? Bike racks are heavily used, work, and save cities money...

That is not my quest to comment on that today however (although you can feel free) It is my intention to bring to you attention a space-age, green-tech device that creates a bike lane around you. Yes, a virtual force field called the LightLane.

The LightLane is a concept design that uses lasers to project an illuminated bike lane all around you wherever you go. It keeps you visible to cars and it keeps you safe.

In your blind rage against progress and a safety, it appears that you haven't read the article. No one is suggesting more bike lanes, however you are suggesting ignorance.

And it looks like you need to read up on the economics of energy production and consumption. Your naitivity is why people like me hate the green movement. I will not change my lifestyle for feel-good nonsense.

Even if it we used less energy to produce the food to fuel the biker, which we do not, creating bike lanes only increases drive times, which causes increased fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Looks like you need to get out of the house a bit more!

The energy it takes to grow an apple and eat it doesn't compare to the energy it takes to drill miles underneath the earth, put it in ocean liners with military escort, ship it via trucks, lines of distribution, etc. Bike lines promote eco friendly transportation.

If you read the post above, you'll see that the article suggest technology can even replace the bike lane if that is such a monster fear of yours. Enjoy your cup of coffee while driving, just be mindful of people on bikes.

Bike lanes aren't green. They take up valuable street space, which causes traffic congestion. Not to mention that it generally takes more energy to produce the food to fuel the biker than it would to drive the same distance. My commute to work via State St. has increased 5 minutes since they changed one of the westbound lanes into a bike lane. In protest, this summer I will drive this section of State w/ my windows down, A/C on and drink coffee out of a styrofoam cup.

Bike lanes are merely another green wet dream.
