I love Craigslist. Ever since I found out about it from a guest at the hotel I worked at downtown, long before the Milwaukee list was even started back in 2003. I believe the San Fransisco page started first, before the expanision to NYC, DC and LA.
I was moving back east to DC, and when this guy told me about it, I really had no clue.. so on my break I checked it out and I was amazed at all the stuff listed on there, and how you can post stuff on there for free.
In DC, I used it to find an apartment with an amazing roommate, bought a sofa, sold my bed when I was moving back since I needed to unload some stuff.
I did notice that they added a Milwaukee board back in 2005, and when I was moving back in 2006, it was in full swing, and allowed me to find the most amazing little nook in Bayview. To this day I love using my blackberry to troll the rants and raves, when I am bored out of my mind, when I am out and about and need some form of entertainment.
So last November, the bed my man and I were sleeping on, got moldy and had to go. I wasn't gonna buy a new bed until after we went to Florida, since I would rather save money for that trip. So thus began the Saga of the Air Mattresses.
So, Christmas came and went, New Years as well and finally Florida was an amazing escape in Feb, and we had gone through 3 Air matresses at this point.
So then after saving up a little bit of money, I saw a free queen size bed on Craigslist this past Saturday, thinking I could use the money I had saved on a nice frame. I emailed the owner, and my man called my friend with a van to see if he was free, and to be on standby. Then I refreshed the page and saw the bed was gone. Oh well, then I texted the van guy to let him know... no bed.
Then I switched over and scrolled down the regular furnature page... and I saw the best ad ever. $200 for a California King Size bed, down in South Milwaukee. The owner added pictures to show it was not stained, nor no rips, only 4 years old (it had been in storage for 2 as we later learned) and had left a phone number. It had been posted for about 20 minutes, and I knew I could not let this deal pass me by. I was shaking as I called the number using my VP, and found out it was still there.. and I got the address, and told my man what we where getting, as he was as floored as I was. He called the guy with the van.. and before I knew it we were on our way!
I fell in love with this bed.. the biggest bed I have ever owned, and it actually fits into our bedroom.. (with my nightstand turned sideways) and I am finally happy to have a good night's sleep without worrying that the mattress will explode.
So you can still get a good deal on Craigslist, after dealing with all the insane people who ask an amazing amount of money (IMHO, 2k for a used bed? yeah right!) for stuff that is not worth that price.

Actually, you would be suprised at how many beds that are sold as "new" that are actually "used"! Many places that take you old mattress actually just re-sell them by taking off the tags and replacing the cover. That is even more disgusting IMHO.

I agree with the used mattress, air or any material. But the top on that "never-buy-used" list is undies. Number 1.

You bought a used bed????? That is gross. There are some things that should never be bought used and a bed would be the top item on that list.
